Doctor Who Exterminates Radio Ad Producers!

Tom Baker launches a symphony of swearing and abuse at studio minions - but is he serious or trying to lighten a dull situation?

Like many other popular celebrities of the 70’s and 80’s, our favourite Doctor Who, Tom Baker would take on lucrative voiceover work for TV and radio adverts.

I would imagine it is not actually that glamourous to be stuck in a recording booth for possibly a whole day going over and over the same script. No doubt last minute any alterations would increase the stress levels even more.

With somewhat of a reputation for details and perfection, and by his own admission, writers of Doctor Who would not turn up to script read throughs if Tom was going to be present, such was his disdain for some of the writing.

Here then is Tom Baker attempting a radio voiceover for a furniture company called Symphony – who I’m pretty sure didn’t hire him again!

Listen as he attempts to educate studio technicians, producers and others on pronunciation and grammar interspersed with a generous amount of creative insults.

Bakers Dozen

Some choice highlights from his tirade:

  • Oh come I can’t do that!
  • This sounds like every other kind of shit
  • You might be great with furniture but you’re mean on commas and full stops
  • Are you sure this isn’t a translation from Albanian?
  • I find this a bit too sexy, I’m a getting a stalk on here
  • How did the world ever exist before Symphony came into it
  • Symphony, number one even for bleeding foreigners
  • Symphony, even for monkey shaggers
  • The Princess of Wales wrote this, God almighty
  • I adore distilled Whippet shit
  • The top name for children will not be James any more, but Symphony
  • This is absolutely sublime
  • Symphony, brings tears to my eyes just to say it
