As well as a fine comedy actor, Matt Berry is an accomplished musician and has released nine studio albums and even has a professional studio setup at home.

He has a great admiration for musical maestro Ronnie Hazlehurst who was responsible for some memorable TV themes during the 70s and 80s, such as Sorry, Are You Being Served and for gameshows such as Blankety Blank.

So much so that he has created his own interpretations of some of them, and in 2018 released an album called Televisions Themes that featured his reworking of popular retro TV themes including Rainbow and Doctor Who.

Are You Being Remixed?

The classic theme from department store comedy Are You Being Served? gets the Berry treatment in this live performance from 2013.

Speaking of Musical Berries …

Mike Berry (no relation) who played Mr Spooner in Are You Being Served?, was a talented singer with a number of top 10 hits during the 1960s.

It’s actually quite fitting that the very last every episode of AYBS, “The Pop Star” featured Mr Spooner hitting the pop charts in an effort to avoid being fired!

Don’t Be a Wally!

For those of you who played around with home computers during the 1980s, you might be familiar with the character Wally Week who appeared in several Mikrogen games such as Everyone’s a Wally.

Well, on the B side of that particular cassette was a song of the same name written and sung by Mike! It’s quite a catchy little number, so don’t blame me if it sticks in your head for the rest of the day.
